Serviced accommodation, designed to be remembered

Samantha McHattie designs homes for short stays that feel lived in, layered and quietly luxurious, and that stand up to a changeover every few days.

A home should tell a story

The Ticking Stripe Interiors is a heritage led design studio founded by Samantha McHattie, a deeply thoughtful creative with a gift for transforming unloved properties into homes that feel lived in, layered, and quietly luxurious.

For serviced accommodation, that matters twice over. A guest decides from a handful of photographs, then judges the stay on how the house feels when they walk through the door. Samantha designs for both moments.

Design that earns its keep

Designed for the guest, built for the turnover

A named guest

Every scheme starts with who the house is for and why they are coming. Colour, comfort and detail are chosen for that guest, never assembled from a catalogue.

Made to last

Fabrics, finishes and furniture that are durable, cleanable and easy to replace, so the house looks as good on the hundredth stay as it did on the first.

Ready for the camera

The photographs sell the stay before a guest reads a word. Each room is styled so it reads beautifully in a listing and feels even better in person.

Ways to work together

Three levels of service

Each builds on the one before. Choose the level of support that suits you, your budget and how much of the work you would like to do yourself.

I

Mood boards

A considered design direction for the whole property, room by room, so you can see how the house will look and feel before anything is bought.

  • A mood board for each room
  • Colour, pattern, texture and lighting
  • Furniture and styling direction

For operators who will source and buy

II

Mood boards and shopping list

Everything in the mood boards, with a shopping list of every item the property needs, so nothing is guessed at and nothing is forgotten.

  • Everything in level one
  • A shopping list of every item required
  • Ready for you or your team to order

For operators who will order and install

III

Full service

Everything in the first two, and then the studio does the rest. You receive a finished house, styled and ready for its photographs.

  • Everything in levels one and two
  • Ordering, tracking and accepting every delivery
  • Bringing everything to the property and installing it
  • Staging every room, ready for photography

For operators who want it done

Every commission begins with a conversation about the property and the guest it is for. The scope and fee are agreed in writing before any work begins.

Beyond short stays

Also from the studio

HMO design

Shared houses designed for the people who live in them. Bedrooms that feel like a home rather than a let, and shared kitchens and living spaces people want to spend time in, finished to stand up to daily use.

Residential homes

For homeowners, and especially those living in period homes. Character rich interiors that honour the history of the house, reflect your own story and bring a sense of belonging to every room.

The studio

Samantha McHattie

With a focus on texture, warmth and emotional connection, Samantha's work is rooted in the belief that a home should tell a story. One that reminds you of your childhood kitchen, your grandmother's linen drawer, or the quiet pride of walking into a room that just feels right.

She blends traditional charm with modern elegance, creating spaces that honour history while holding space for new memories to unfold.
